Crucial Determinants and Facts of Hep C

There are various factors that are determinants before and after treatment.

Patients are usually confused with the voluminous information present over the internet and it definitely confuses the individual in search for information regarding the virus.

We have brought forward certain well established facts that are crucial for all hep c patients to understand before and after treatment.

Given below are some of the things that you got to know,

Studies report that once patients have achieved SVR, they have a 99.2 to 100 percent chance of remaining free of Hepatitis C. In other words, less than 1 percent of people who achieve SVR experience a return of Hepatitis C infection.

If Hepatitis C does return after achieving SVR, there is a good chance it is due to re-exposure, and being infected again with the virus.
Some studies suggest that there are two groups at higher risk of Hepatitis C returning after SVR: injection drug users or prisoners, and those co-infected with HIV.
Different from several other diseases, having Hepatitis C once does not provide immunity from getting it again.
Even with SVR, there will still be Hepatitis C antibodies. This does not mean you are still infected. If there is no detectable Hepatitis C virus in the blood, there is nothing to transmit to others. Antibodies are your immune system’s response to a pathogen and are not infectious.
After achieving SVR, routine Hepatitis C screening is typically advised to make sure you remain free of the virus and to catch any reemergence right away should it occur. A quantitative Hepatitis C RNA test that detects viral load is appropriate, not a Hepatitis C antibody test.
After achieving SVR, doctors are hesitant to give patients permission to drink alcohol. This is due to many complicating factors. For example, drinking alcohol is extremely dangerous for those with liver cirrhosis – even if Hepatitis C has been eradicated.
After achieving SVR, liver health almost always improves. This includes improved liver histology, reduced risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, and improved overall survival.
With adherence to lifestyle choices that promote liver health, both cirrhosis and fibrosis have shown the capability of reversing after achieving SVR.

$84000 Hep C treatment for free!

The following information is based on the news shared in the Bradenton Times.

Gilead has partnered with Ronald J. Cirillo, MD, medical director of Turning Points, Bradenton’s one-stop center for the medically needy at 701 17th Ave. W., Bradenton.

We all know that Harvoni a combination of Sofosbuvir 400mg and Ledipasvir 90mg has been a total success for the treatment of Hep C genotype 1 and genotype 4.

Gilead will take part in Hep C research and the project will be handled by Dr. Cirillo the medical director of Turning Points.

Since the price of the medication is massive it will be interesting to note the number of Hep C patients that will be covered in this research.

The research will be conducted for an unspecified amount of time by students from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The findings will be out in a scientific journal.

Gilead is definitely taking a big plunge here, but data also supports 99% success rate of its Indian licensed generics. Sofosbuvir 400mg + Ledipasvir 90mg, Sofosbuvir 400mg, and Sofosbuvir 400mg + Velpatasvir 100mg.

Successful treatment requires 12 weeks and in some cases 24 weeks, but this definitely makes the future positive for patients suffering from chronic Hep C.

For more information on the program call 941-567-6156 or for the generic program visit here.

Direct Acting Antivirals for the cure of Hepatitis C a global study.

Sofosbuvir based therapy for the treatment of Hep C for genotype 1 or genotype 2 with advanced liver disease the most effective.

An oral combination of Sofosbuvir 400mg + Ledipasvir 90mg has been most effective for treatment of Hep c for genotype 1.

An oral combination of Sofosbuvir 400mg + Daclatasvir 60mg has been most effective for treatment of Hep c for genotype 2, ( with ribavirin for patients with cirrhotic liver condition)

Study conducted by Dr. K. Rajender Reddy, MD, professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania as reported to Medical Economics.

Dr. Reddy along with his colleagues published their results in the Alimentary Pharmacaology & Therapeutics.

Patients are recommended to get tested again probably in 6 months.

The results show that genotype 1 patients had higher sustained virological response (SVR) when treated with sofosbuvir plus simeprevir, with or without ribavirin (66%–74%) than with sofosbuvir plus ribavirin (54%). Genotype 1b patients had a higher response (84%) than did genotype 1a patients (64%). SVR for genotype 2 patients was 72% with sofosbuvir plus ribavirin; genotype 3 patients had a substantially lower response (35%).

Fake Hepatitis C pills in Japan, a problem in the supply chain.

It is unfortunate that there are counterfeit medications for Harvoni. Of course who wouldn’t want to get into this line of work  where you can charge anyone anywhere between $15000- $35000

While the original price of the drug stands at $94500 its generics available in India are priced at $1500.

Generic medications are equally effective, and this has been proven in the Indian market.

Gilead licensed generics found in the Indian market are also provided to 120  countries with small and medium economies.

The counterfeit Harvoni tablets found in Japan were distributed through wholesalers who worked entirely on cash.

A Glitter of Hope: The Indian generic market and the prospect of recovery for HCV patients worldwide.

The month of April was when I joined as the outreach coordinator for Soul of Healing and its subsidiary Sunny Pharma. A nonprofit based in the United States its principle aim was providing for the medication required to eliminate the virus. During the course of my work I have gained substantial information about Hep C, its treatment requirements and a part of how the pharmaceutical industry operates. Gilead Sciences holds the patent to the most sought after direct acting antiviral (DAA).

Harvoni, Sovaldi and Epclusa was first released and approved by the FDA of the United States. It was subsequently released in the Indian market in the form of generics licensed by Gilead to 14 major Indian Pharmaceutical companies.  Millions worldwide do not have the knowledge of its availability in the Indian market.  The prices of the drugs were priced at a whopping $94,500 for Harvoni, $84000 for Sovaldi and $74,760 for the recently released Epclusa. The Indian market however has a price more humane although still an uphill task for the local population to afford.

The price ranged from INR 19,900 for one bottle of Sovaldi, and INR 25000 per bottle each for Harvoni and Epclusa. The latter has not been released yet in the Indian market however it is available under the generic name of Velpanat in Nepal by Natco Pharma. With such a differential price structure and the inability of millions in the United States and Europe to purchase the original, the Indian generics are a glitter of hope to those who want to recover and eliminate the virus.

Our nonprofit was established to provide access to the medications for treating Hep C. My job as the outreach coordinator began by reaching out to those who had lost hope in their system unable to afford $95000. During the past year I have interacted with many who had the same financial situation in utter despair trying to find their life saving medication. The generic market was their hope which we successfully provided.

During the course of the year it has been hectic as well as challenging to remain in collaboration and negotiation with big Indian pharmaceutical companies. Our first major partnership was with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory, although we through local partners procured other generics from Hetero, Mylan, Cipla and Natco. Towards the end of the year we even procured and entered into collaboration with Beacon Pharmaceuticals from Bangladesh which had released its own version of generic Epclusa.
With many Pharma companies on the run in manufacturing generics there is hope as well as financial security especially with people from countries like the USA where the price is out of reach for the general public. Our nonprofit has successfully negotiated prices with pharmaceutical companies to make it affordable and our objective for the people in developed countries to have it accessible at a negligible cost with dedicated service of delivery, communication and coordination.

Indian generics have a huge market for the rest of the world. Prices of medication in the west are skyrocketing and most of the health insurance companies are finding it very difficult to approve medications for their patients. Similar problems are faced by the local population here in India where the local prices set are unaffordable for the general public most who survive on less than a dollar per day.

With time we have been able to successfully negotiate affordable rates for our prescription assistance program and we have served not countries but continents of America, Africa, Europe and Asia. We have been able to provide medications to many who had lost hope in life of ever finding a cure for a life threatening disease they were living with.

The glitter of hope provided by the generic market in India with a superior quality is here to stay and the future of course looks bright. People need to know and be fully aware that there is no difference between the compositions and those generics are equally efficient in eliminating the virus. It is painstakingly difficult to live with a virus that is slowly taking a living body closer to death. It is wiser to opt for an easy, affordable and accessible treatment that will not only get your body back, but add more years to life.
